Flora of North America Editorial Committee (FNA vol. 9, 2014) recognizes Rosa rubiginosa with two varieties (nemoralis and rubiginosa). Kartesz's (1994) R. eglanteria is equivalent to FNA's R. rubiginosa var. rubiginosa. Kartesz's (1994) Rosa micrantha is equivalent to FNA's R. ruginosa var. nemoralis.
