FNA (vol. 4, 2003) as presented here includes Salicornia borealis in S. rubra, while Kartesz (1994) treats them as distinct.

Known from Alta., B.C., Man., Ont., Sask., Yukon; Idaho, Iowa, Kans., Minn., Mont., Nebr., Nev., N.Mex., N.Dak., S.Dak., Utah, Wash., Wyo. Salicornia rubra has been introduced into Quebec and Michigan (FNA vol. 4, 2003).

Habitat

This species is found in seasonally wet, saline or alkaline places inland, and sometimes along highways at elevations ranging from 100 to 1,600 meters (FNA, 2023).
